MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA is the final movie in Toho's original series in which Godzilla is portrayed as an outright villain. In subsequent films, starting with 1964's GHIDORAH THE THREE-HEADED MONSTER, Godzilla would begin to play the role of Earth's defender, although reluctantly at first.
